Potter returns to action as Cobblers reserves claim Barnet victory

BACK IN ACTION - Alfie Potter played an hour of the Cobblers' 4-2 reserve team win over Barnet on Tuesday

Alfie Potter played his first game of 2016 as a Cobblers reserve team claimed a 4-2 win in a behind-closed-doors friendly at Sky Bet League Two rivals Barnet on Tuesday afternoon.

Potter, who hasn’t played since suffering a rib injury in the 1-0 league win over Accrington Stanley on December 28, played the first 60 minutes in north London.

Manager Chris Wilder will be delighted to see the former Oxford United man, who has been back in training for the past few weeks, back out on the pitch, and he could be in contention for this weekend’s trip to Stevenage.

As well as Potter, there were much-needed run-outs for Nicky Adams, Lawson D’Ath, Sam Hoskins, Ryan Clarke, Josh Lelan, Ryan Cresswell, Rod McDonald and Jason Taylor.

The Cobblers won the match thanks to goals from Adams, D’Ath, Hoskins and youth team player Matty Forster.

Town assistant boss Alan Knill was a happy man after the game, and was delighted with how the playeres went about their business.

“It was a really good game for us and the players showed a great attitude,” said Knill.

“Alfie came through 60 minutes fine and it was a good opportunity for us to get minutes into some of the other players as well.

“It was a good game and overall we were really pleased with the efforts of the players.”
