O'Toole returns for AFC Wimbledon date, but McDonald is a doubt

O’Toole has been missing the past two games, not playing at York City due to a thigh strain, and then missing out at Hartlepool on Saturday after picking up a sickness bug, but he could be in line for a first team recall.

There is less encouraging news on central defender Rod McDonald, who also fell ill ahead of Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Hartlepool.

He will have his fitness assessed later on Monday, but Luke Prosser is on standby to make his first start for the club if McDonald doesn’t make it.

“John-Joe will definitely be available, he will train today,” said Town boss Chris Wilder.

“He was going to travel with us on Friday, but he wasn’t very well, so with the long journey up the road we took the decision to leave him at home.

“That was to obviously get him right, and to also make sure the bug didn’t get passed on to any of the other players, which is important as well.

“Rod got a bang, and he didn’t feel very well just before the game, at about half one quarter to two.

“He wanted to play and give it a go, but unfortunately he didn’t make it.

“We will assess him today and see how he is, but as we have done when Jason Taylor has come into the side, or Danny Rose has come into the side, Luke Prosser will start if Rod is not right, as he put in a really solid performance on Saturday against difficult opponents.”

Aside from McDonald, Marc Richards (Achilles) and Paul Corry (knee), the Cobblers have no other injury concerns.

AFC Wimbledon have no fresh injury problems, and are set to name the same team that lost 2-1 at home to Oxford United on Saturday, and that means former Cobblers favourite Adebayo Akinfenwa will have to make do with a place on the bench.
