Shrewsbury Town manager admitted he was 'hugely frustrated' by his side's 2-1 defeat to the Cobblers on Saturday.

Salop fell behind to Mark Marshall's goal on 12 minutes but dominated the remainder of the first-half and missed several chances to go into the break on level terms.

Shaun Whalley did restore parity early in the second-half but Shrewsbury failed to kick-on from there as Northampton grabbed the initiative with Sam Hoskins scoring the winning goal.

“We are hugely frustrated at losing the game," admitted Ricketts. We’ve had a lot of possession and 19 shots. One of the biggest disappointing moments was losing Ethan (Ebanks-Landell) just seconds into the game – that was a big blow.

“We were already missing players today, so to lose Ethan after 10 seconds was a blow - we couldn’t reset really after. Their goals were disappointing form my point of view – it’s hugely frustrating.

“Large parts of the game were very, very good. We scored one but should have scored more. Ultimately we only scored one because from those 19 shots we only had five on target.

“We had unbelievable opportunities and situations where we really should do better and score more goals. There was an awful lot of good today. We gave two really poor goals away and that cost us.

“We looked the more likely team to control the game and win the game throughout baring the first 10 minutes. That’s more to do with losing Ethan so early in the game and having to reorganise.

“When we did get into our rhythm, you saw a team that moved the ball well. At times we could be quicker. We dominated the game so there are many positives.”
