Ipswich Town manager Paul Lambert conceded 'it wasn't good enough' from his team after their goalless draw with Northampton on Tuesday.

The Tractor Boys, fancied for promotion before the season, remain in mid-table and have now won just one of their past six matches, placing huge pressure on Lambert.

And after being second best at Portman Road on Tuesday, his side were fortunate to come away with a point as Cobblers created and missed several opportunities.

"Well it wasn't good enough," said Lambert. "That's the bottom line.

"The second-half was a bit better but to be honest the results haven't been good enough for a long time. We are all in this together but the manager always gets the brunt of criticism.

"But, like I say, it hasn't been good enough. Only Nors [James Norwood] tested the goalkeeper tonight. I don't know if it's a lack of confidence but we have to have shots."

Lambert did, however, air his grievances over a late penalty shout when Alan Judge went down inside the box. Referee Darren Drysdale penalised Judge for diving before squaring up to the midfielder in a strange incident.

"It should have been a penalty on Judgey at the end but it is a results business," said Lambert. "The aftermath of that incident needs to be looked at."

On Blues' position in the league table, the Town boss added: "People can say we're near the play-offs with games in hand, but right now it's not good to look at.

"We all know that we have to better on Saturday. We can't get away from the fact that things must be better. Oxford are doing well and it'll be a different game to tonight, but we certainly need to improve. The lads know it."
