AFC Wimbledon manager admitted his players were 'disappointed' not to make the most of their perfect start and go on to beat the Cobblers in Saturday's first League One game of the season.

Ethan Chislett scored after just 21 seconds at the PTS but despite taking the lead again later in the half, the visitors had to make do with a point.

"It was obviously a great start but credit to them because they came back twice and pegged us back," said Hodges. "But the boys are disappointed in the dressing room as they felt we could have taken all three points.

"We got into a lot of good areas and I always felt we would be a threat but at times we were a bit rash instead of taking a breath and being calm.

"I think we would have won the game had Shane (McLoughlin) taken that chance at 2-1 because they went straight down the other end and scored their second.

"I was disappointed with the manner of the goals. They wanted us to make mistakes and we've gifted them the goals. That's part of the game: making less mistakes than the opposition."

Hodges was also pleased that his side stood up to Northampton's supposedly direct style of play.

"It was what we expected, " he added. "You come here and it's a battle and it's tinhats and you have to stand up to the way they play and we did that.

"There were little things that we put into place to prepare for their style of football but we'll take the point and move forward."
