Opposition view: Bolton boss questions referee call in Cobblers stalemate
Bolton manager Steven Schumacher queried the decision to disallow Mason Burstow’s first half goal during Sunday’s 0-0 draw with Northampton.
Burstow headed in a corner after 21 minutes but the goal was disallowed for a foul on Cobblers goalkeeper Ross Fitzsimons, and thereafter Bolton were frustrated by their visitors, with Richard Taylor, Kyle Dempsey and Amario Cozier-Duberry missing chances.

"It’s frustrating again,” admitted Schumacher, whose side are now three without a win. “I feel like I’m repeating myself but we need to show more quality against these low blocks. We have the goal disallowed but if that’s a foul then nearly every corner that goes in would be a foul because there’s always contact in the box. The ref saw it as a foul on the goalkeeper but I don’t think it is.
"Richard Taylor nearly scored, Kyle Dempsey nearly scored and we had other decent chances but we didn’t hit the target. It’s frustrating because we controlled the game again but we haven’t found a way to score.
"It’s not easy to break down low blocks but it’s concerning that we’re not hitting the target. We’ve had 12 shots inside the box. Amario (Cozier-Duberry) had one in the first half where he’s in a great position but he drags it wide.
"We need to hit the target more, there’s no denying that, but taking 17 shots in a game, and 12 in the box, shows we’re doing something right. We just have to execute better.”
