Vadaine Oliver has signed a contract with Northampton's League One rivals Gillingham.

The 28-year-old forward, who scored eight goals in 40 appearances for the Cobblers last season, rejected a new offer to stay at the PTS Academy Stadium in favour of a move to Steve Evans' side.

He becomes the club’s second signing of the summer following the capture of Ryan Jackson last week.

In total, Oliver has made 311 professional appearances and scored 59 goals.

He said: “I am buzzing to get it over the line. I had a few offers from League 1 clubs but as soon as I came down and spoke to the Manager and heard his plans for the club, it was a no brainer for me.

“As a Footballer you want to be successful and be in a team that is looking for that big push. To take me to that next level I thought it was the right decision.

Evans added: “He was outstanding in the play-offs for Northampton, scoring a goal. He is a real enthusiastic front player who can play not just centrally; he is a really good asset.

“He is a real handful and our supporters will take to him.”
