Town let a 1-0 lead slip to lose 2-1 to the Gulls in what was their third defeat in four league games and an embarrassing one on their own ground.

O’Donovan felt both goals could have been avoided and could not hide his annoyance at the defeat after the game.

“We looked dominant, we looked strong and we looked in control,” said O’Donovan. “And we blew it.

“It was the most frustrating game of football I’ve played in a long while. The manager was angry afterwards because we were playing well and the better team.

Torquay were no great shakes and we gifted them two goals. Both of those goals could’ve been stopped if we’d taken a foul further up the pitch and given away a booking.

“Sometimes you need to do that and maybe we were a little bit naïve at times.”
