The 35-year-old becomes the club’s first new recruit of the summer and fills the void left in goal by Lee Nicholls’ return to Wigan Athletic at the end of his loan deal.

Duke, who was on the bench for Bradford City for their npower League Two play-off final win over the Cobblers, will officially become a Northampton player on July 1.

“Matt was always our number one keeping target this summer and I am delighted we have got him,” said Town manager Aidy Boothroyd.

“I am really pleased that in each of the last two seasons we have got our top goalkeeping targets. Matt needs little introduction really having done so fantastically well for us on loan and then being one of the stars of Bradford’s Capital One Cup run last season.

“We have done well to get Matt. We wanted an experienced keeper and Matt fits the bill perfectly. We know he will settle in quickly as he knows the club and he knows the staff and I think he will be another excellent addition to the squad.

“I am really looking forward to working with him again. He is a well respected, first-class professional and I am delighted he is joining us.”
