Morris voted in as interim Cobblers captain

Several eyebrows were raised at York City when Ian Morris led the team out of the tunnel but the election of the newly-arrived midfielder was a piece of democracy in action.

With club captain Kelvin Langmead sidelined until October after undergoing knee surgery, the squad held a secret ballot to find out who would assume armband duties in his absence.

And Morris, who had only been with the squad a matter of weeks, got the most nominations.

There is nothing to suggest Langmead will not immediately resume captaincy duties when he is fit again.

But for Morris to win over his colleagues having only worked with them for a very short space of time is a significant achievement for the Irishman.
