Langmead admits Cobblers need promotion favours

Kelvin Langmead admits the Cobblers will need a few favours from elsewhere during the npower League Two promotion run-in.

Town slipped out of the play-off places after Tuesday night’s results produced wins for Cheltenham Town, Fleetwood Town and Rotherham United.

There was a defeat for Saturday’s opponents and another of the team’s promotion rivals, Southend United, and there are likely to be plenty of twists and turns to come between now and the final game of the season.

The campaign finishes early this year because Wembley is again hosting the Champions League final, which means Northampton wrap up with a home game against Edgar Davids’ Barnet on Saturday April 27.

Prior the the final weekend, the team face a trio of difficult away trips, to Cheltenham, Bradford and Port Vale.

During the remaining 15 games, Langmead and his team-mates are likely to find themselves in a variety of different league positions and the captain has reaffirmed the need for focus.

“We were third on merit, we deserved to be there,” he said.

“All the games played were equal and we know the two away games have damaged that.

“When we were third it was in our hands and we didn’t have to look at anyone else’s results, which we do now.

“A couple of teams have got games in hand on us and we’re aware of that.

“But we’ve got 15 games to go and we just have to take care of our own results and what we’re doing.”
