Cobblers manager Wilder wants the top boss nominations to keep coming

But the Cobblers boss isn’t particularly interested in personal plaudits, he just knows that if he is being put up for the monthly awards, it means his team is doing the business out on the pitch.

Wilder is up against Oxford United’s Michael Appleton, Accrington’s John Coleman and Newport County’s John Sheridan for the award, and it is the second successive nomination he has received for the league two top boss gong.

The Town manager is surely destined to go one better than October and win it this time around after a 100 per cent run of four wins out of four in November.

Those victories were also achieved with the very future of the club in jeopardy due to off-field problems, and Wilder says the nomination is down to the efforts of the entire squad at Sixfields.

“You get nominated if you win games of football, so we are all delighted,” said the Cobblers boss when asked about what the nomination means to him.

“That’s about it really, we have had a great run, especially over the past couple of months, and the players are producing performances and producing results.

“Hopefully, if I can get nominated for a few more, it shows that we are doing the right things and are at the top of the table.”

The Cobblers also kicked off December in winning style last weekend, but only just as they fought back from 2-0 down in the dying minutes to beat Northwich Victoria 3-2 in the FA Cup second round at Sixfields.

It was a performance that Wilder wasn’t particularly pleased about, and he says the match should act as a warning to his players that although his team is flying at the moment having won six straight matches, that kick in the teeth is always just around the corner.

“I know the game, and we have spoken to the players today about this, we dodged a bullet on Saturday,” said Wilder.

“Even though we had 67 per cent possession and so many opportunities and chances, we dodged a bullet against Northwich and we have to be fully focused.

“I have been in the game long enough to know you can’t start patting yourselves on the back, whether that’s individually or all the players.

“We have put ourselves in a great position, but we are only in December.

“We went on a fabulous run just after new year last season, so we can win games of football, but we can lose games as well.

“That applies at any level, and we have to stay focused and that is the key thing.

“The biggest thing is that the assessment of the season will take place after the last game.”

The Cobblers are back in league action on Saturday when they make the short trip down the M1 to Luton Town.

John-Joe O’Toole is available for selection after missing the Northwich game due to suspension, and the only player unavailable to Wilder is the injured Paul Corry.
