Cobblers goalkeeping coach Flowers in running to be boss of Salisbury

BBC Wiltshire have reported that former Southampton, Blackburn Rovers and England shot-stopper Flowers has thrown his hat into the ring to replace Darrell Clarke.

Salisbury are without a boss as Clarke has been named assistant manager at the Cobblers’ league two rivals Bristol Rovers.

Flowers, 46, has been goalkeeping coach at Northampton under Ian Sampson, Gary Johnson and Aidy Boothroyd, but has past managerial experience with Stafford Rangers

Another applicant for the job is former Aston Villa, Stoke City and Leicester City boss Brian Little, who has been out of work since leaving Gainsborough in 2011.

Also reportdely in the frame are former Arsenal and England midfielder Graham Rix, ex-Southampton defender Paul Telfer, David Holdsworth, Steve King, Liam Daish and Terry Brown.

Former Hartlepool and Mansfield midfielder Clarke had been in charge of Salisbury since 2010, having ended his playing career with the club.

The 35-year-old guided them to the Conference Premier in May - their second promotion in three years.
