Cobblers draw Blackpool at home in Capital One Cup

Chris Wilder’s men will take on the Seasiders at Sixfields in the week beginning August 10.

Troubled Blackpool were relegated from the Sky Bet Championship in May, having endured a torrid season.

Financial, on-field and off-the-pitch troubles saw the team at the foot of the table for the entire campaign, with their final match of the season against Huddersfield Town being abandoned halfway through due to a crowd protest at Bloomfield Road.

Manager Lee Clark lost his job following the relegation, and the Seasiders are now managed by Neil McDonald, former assistant manager to Sam Allardyce at West Ham United.

McDonald is currently busy strengthening a squad that was down to single figures this summer.

The Cobblers haven’t played Blackpool since April, 2007, when Stuart Gray’s side were hammered 4-1 in a league one match in the north west, with Simon Cox netting for Town.

The Seasiders’ most recent visit to Sixfields was a 1-1 draw in November, 2006, Eoin Jess on the mark for the home side.

When Blackpool do come to town, the Cobblers will be be hoping they can repeat their form from the first round of last season’s competition, when Championship side Wolverhampton Wanderers were beaten 3-2 at Molineux.

The Cobblers will discover their league fixtures for the new campaign at 9am on Wednesday.
