Aidy Boothroyd feels the Cobblers’ poor away form has been addressed in the past month and that he has the squad options to improve it further.

Town have lost one of their past four matches away from Sixfields but have still won the fewest games on their travels of the top 14 sides in npower League Two.

On Tuesday they recovered from going a goal down at Morecambe to pick up a 1-1 draw through captain Kelvin Langmead’s eighth goal of the season and they are looking to build on that result at Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday.

With Lee Collins providing a multitude of defensive options and left-winger Ishmel Demontagnac bringing another dimension to the team’s attack with his recent form, it means Boothroyd has more tactical alternatives at his disposal than ever before.

“We’ve got quite a lot of things right at home and don’t get me wrong, I think we can improve a lot at home as well,” he said.

“Our away form did need addressing and I think we’ve done that now – we’ve got the personnel to do it and we can play in a variety of ways.

“We have a good talent base, it’s not a big squad but we’ve got quality and I can adapt things either between games or during the matches themselves.”

At Morecambe the team started in a 4-5-1 formation but gave the home side the kitchen sink treatment as the game wore on, with big strikers Clive Platt and Adebayo Akinfenwa coming off the bench to add some real power up front.

“We were very dominant towards the end of that game and we thought we could perhaps have won it,” said Boothroyd.

“Both sides had chances and we could have won it 5-4 or been beaten 5-4 but I said to the players before the game that we had to come away with the minimum of a point and we did that so that stands us in good stead.”
