Northampton Town Women's match abandoned due to 'serious medical incident'
Northampton Town Women say they have received a ‘further positive update’ on Lacey Snape’s condition after Sunday’s league fixture against Sutton Coldfield Town was postponed due to a ‘serious medical incident’.
Cobblers were trailing 1-0 going into stoppage-time at the O'Riordan Bond Stadium when Snape went down and received treatment from both sets of medical staff. Posting an update at the time, the official NTFC Women’s Twitter page tweeted out: “There appears to be significant concern for Lacey who is being treated by both sets of medical staff.”

The account posted a further update five minutes later announcing the game had been called off. “The referee has blown the full time whistle,” it confirmed. “This afternoon's Division One Midlands match between Northampton Town and Sutton Coldfield Town has been abandoned due to a serious medical incident. The thoughts of everyone at NTFC Women are with Lacey Snape at this moment in time.”
Thankfully, a little later, the club provided an encouraging update, saying: “We have received a positive update on Lacey Snape's injury. Lacey has been taken to hospital to be assessed further and everyone at Northampton Town Football Club wishes her well for a speedy recovery. Thank you to both sets of medical staff for their assistance.”
There was another update on Monday morning – “We have received a further positive update on Lacey Snape who was discharged from hospital on Sunday night. Lacey will continue her recovery with our medical and strength & conditioning staff and we look forward to seeing her back on the pitch soon. Thank you once again to both sets of medical staff and to everyone who sent their kind messages of support for Lacey.”
The outcome of the match – whether the result stands or it will have to be replayed from scratch – has not been confirmed. Cobblers Women play in FA Women's National League Division One Midlands and are currently ninth out of 12 teams.
