Northampton Town v Huddersfield Town: Kevin Nolan eyes another big scalp

Kevin Nolan is hoping his side can pull off another big scalp when they host ambitious Huddersfield Town at Sixfields tonight.

The Terriers, who gave former Premier League goalkeeper Lee Grant his first managerial role when appointing him at the end of last season, made some eye-catching moves in the summer, recruiting the likes of Marcus Harness and Alfie May.

But it has been an up and down campaign so far and they go into Tuesday’s game at Sixfields sitting eighth in League One following Saturday’s 3-2 defeat at Cardiff.

"It's not going to be easy because Huddersfield are a good team but we're at home and we want to win,” said Nolan. "Granty's done a good job and you expect them to be up there come the end of the season but it's just another game.

"We'll show them respect of course but I want them to be walking away at 10pm on Tuesday thinking 'we don't want to be going back to Sixfields any time soon'. The supporters have been fantastic home and away all season long and I'm hoping they can get behind the lads again because it makes a big difference and it's great to have them with us.”

Northampton’s 3-2 win over Huddersfield back in February, when Liam Shaw, Sam Hoskins and Tom Eaves all netted, was perhaps their best performance under Nolan last season.

He added: "Huddersfield was one of my first home games and that was a very good win and we needed it at the time. They had a quality and they still have quality now so there will be times when we'll have to suffer and work hard without the ball.

"But we'll give our players a game plan that we feel gives us the best opportunity to win the game. If we execute it, I believe we can come away with the result we want.”
