Bolton began both halves well but missed chances proved costly as McGeehan headed in with 20 minutes to go before Hoskins scored his 99th Cobblers goal just moments later. Here are our player ratings from Sixfields...

9. Cameron McGeehan
Performances like this have become his trademark over the last year or so. You just know what you're going to get from him week in, week out. He does his job out of possession, he buzzes about in good areas, he lands on second balls, and, most importantly, he pops up with vital goals. 10. Tyrese Fornah
A reliable avenue out on the left where Northampton's main threat came from, though he also drifted over to the right and caused problems there too, linking wonderfully with Hoskins on occasion. Didn't see an unmarked Vale in the middle but he was invariably the man driving Cobblers forward and forcing Bolton backwards... 7.5 Photo: Pete Norton

11. Ethan Wheatley
Looked to be struggling from an early stage but gave it a go and tried to continue. Conceded defeat before half-time though and had to make way. Hopefully nothing serious... 7 Photo: Pete Norton

12. Jack Vale
Ensured Wheatley wasn't too much of a miss with his running and industry at the top of the pitch. Would have had a one-on-one chance had Fornah spotted him. Wasn't supposed to play so many minutes after an hour in midweek so naturally fatigued... 7 Photo: Pete Norton
