Fraser Murray scored twice and Jensen Weir headed in another before Michael Forbes opened Town’s account for the season with a consolation. Here are our player ratings from the Brick Community Stadium...

9. Cameron McGeehan
He did have his moments. Caught the base of the post with a header from an acute angle in the first half and just couldn't sort his feet out to tuck away the rebound after List's shot was saved at 3-1. But Cobblers struggled to sustain pressure for any length of time... 5.5 Photo: Pete Norton

10. Sam Hoskins
Led the line alongside Wheatley but it turned into one of those frustrating afternoons where he was kept on the periphery. His runs weren't found and his touch wasn't quite crisp enough when he did get into good positions... 5.5 Photo: Pete Norton

11. Ethan Wheatley
Thrown straight in and there was more than enough in his performance to feel encouraged. He led the press impressively at times, almost twice catching out Tickle, and really grew into the game in the second half. Linked well with List in particular and showed his running power on the ball, breezing past Wigan players at times. Goes without saying that he needs more service and support to really flourish... 6.5 Photo: Pete Norton

12. Elliott List
A real bright spark in the second half. He was sharp and lively and his pace had Wigan backtracking on a few occasions. Very unlucky not to make it 3-2 after a darting run into the box... 6.5 Photo: Pete Norton
