Northampton Town fans congregate on top of hill overlooking play-off game despite request from club and police

Some fans gathered watching the first leg of the play-off semi-final from the hill that overlooks the stadium

A number of people have congregated on a hill that overlooks the PTS Academy Stadium as Northampton Town take on Cheltenham Town in the first leg of the play-off semi-final.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the match is being played behind closed doors, in the absence of fans.

Requests from both the club and Northamptonshire Police were issued in the run up to the game asking supporters to stay at home to watch Keith Curle's men start their promotion bid, so that Government guidance about social distancing can be adhered to.

However, a number of fans could not resist and turned up to stand on the grass hill behind the Sheinman Opticians Stand also known as the North Stand, just off Walter Tull Way. Most appeared to be observing social distancing.

Police officers were also seen patrolling the area.
