Northampton team news for Rotherham as new signing edges closer to first appearance
Elliott Moore could make his first appearance in a matchday squad when Cobblers go to Rotherham for a big game at the bottom of the League One table on Tuesday.
The 28-year-old joined Northampton at the start of the January transfer window but he is yet to feature as he works his way back to full match fitness having spent nearly five months without a club after leaving Oxford United in the summer.
"Elliott Moore and Michael Forbes are training with us,” confirmed Kevin Nolan. “The majority of the lads are on the training pitch and available for selection so I have most of the squad at my disposal – it’s just about when I feel they are ready to be integrated back into the team.”
Nolan admits he would like to rotate more and give the younger members of his squad in particular a breather amid the busy schedule, but that’s currently not possible due to various absences, including Cameron McGeehan, Kyle Edwards and Tyrese Fornah.
"We have a lot of young lads who are making their way in the game,” Nolan added. “Three of them started on Saturday and we're proud of them and they're doing really well, but sometimes you need to take out those younger lads and give them a breather.
"Jon Guthrie has only just come back and there's also Cam McGeehan and Tyrese Fornah who are out at the moment so we’re having to put the young lads in. Sometimes they will sink and other times they will swim and that goes for young players at all levels.”
On facing Rotherham, Nolan added: "Rotherham obviously haven’t had the results they would want or probably feel they deserve, a bit like us, but they will be fighting and scrapping and they’ll be desperate to get back to winning ways.
"We just have to concentrate on ourselves and that’s what I’m asking the lads. We need to scrap and battle and get back to what we are. If we do that, we'll be OK.”
