Nolan happy with 'point gained' for Cobblers at Exeter City

Kevin Nolan said it was a ‘point gained’ after his side drew 0-0 at Exeter City on Saturday.

Cobblers were second best in the opening 45 minutes at St James Park but improved after the break and could have nicked victory with Elliott List missing from close range and Cameron McGeehan seeing a late effort disallowed for offside.

Exeter had chances too but Town defended their box well and gave up few clear opportunities to keep a clean sheet on the road and move up a couple of places to 17th in League One.

"It’s a point gained,” said Nolan. “It’s a tough place to come – they’ve only lost once at home since September – and with all the speculation going on, we knew they would come out flying for the manager because he’s very well liked and rightly so. He’s done an excellent job.

"We had to grind it out and we worked really hard and I thought we were good out of possession. We limited them to very few clear chances. Ross (Fitzsimons) made a few saves but they weren’t incredible saves like last week.

"Who knows, on another day the linesman keeps his flag down for Cam’s goal and we sneak out with a 1-0 win and it’s an even better day, but I’m delighted with the lads, their work ethic can’t be questioned, and it was really important to keep a clean sheet because that gives you something to build on.

"We're building a bit of momentum now and we’re picking up good points against good sides and now we face another one on Tuesday.”
