Nolan hails his players after Cobblers earn fine point on the road

Kevin Nolan was full of praise for his players after they held Bolton Wanderers to a 0-0 draw on Sunday.

Bolton, as expected, dominated possession and territory for the most part at the Toughsheet Community Stadium but Cobblers stood firm and defended exceptionally well to restrict their hosts to very little in the way of clear-cut opportunities.

It’s Town’s second successive 0-0 draw against top five opposition and it means they will remain outside the League One relegation zone even once Sunday’s 3pm kick-offs have finished.

"I’m delighted and I thought we matched them,” said Nolan. “We knew it would be tough. They’ve only lost one of their last 19 home games and they’ve only not scored at home a couple of times so it’s a really good clean sheet and Ross (Fitzsimons) hasn’t really had to make too many big saves. That’s testament to the lads in front of him who made blocks and tackles and won headers and everything you're supposed to do when you don’t have the ball.

"I think we could have been better on the turnovers and with better decision-making we would have been able to hurt them a lot more than what we did. We had some good opportunities and a couple just whistled past the post but you have to respect the point and I’m really happy with it and it’s one I thought we deserved as well.

"We didn’t quite execute in possession but out of possession the lads were fantastic and stuck to the game plan.”
