Nolan confirms Cobblers miss out on player due to 'financial power' of League One rivals

Cobblers boss Kevin Nolan says the club have now moved onto other targets after a proposed deal for a player fell through late on.

Whilst Nolan first revealed the potential setback over the weekend, at the time he did retain hope the deal could be ‘resurrected’. That is no longer the case, however, and the club’s attention is now on other targets with two weeks to go until the window closes.

"We have missed out on one," Nolan confirmed on Tuesday. "I don't think it's any secret after I spoke about it at the weekend. We just couldn't get it over the line.

"Finances are going to dictate that at times and it's unfortunate that we couldn't get there. We felt we could have got there but it sort of goes away from you sometimes because of the financial power in our league.

"It is what it is at the minute and we move on. What we're doing is we're working hard off the pitch to get the next one who we feel can come in and make their mark on the team, but I don’t want an overinflated squad and I won’t sign someone for the sake of it.

"We’ll try our hardest and our best to get a deal done when the right player comes up, and nine out of 10 times we’ve done that, but we are going to miss out on a couple at times because of what I believe is an overinflated market in terms of wages and what people are asking for.”
