Nolan addresses likelihood of more signings after Jake Evans arrival

Kevin Nolan says Cobblers remain ‘very much active’ in the transfer market ahead of Monday’s deadline.

Town added an attacking option to their ranks by snapping up teenage forward Jake Evans on loan from Leicester City shortly before Tuesday’s defeat at Rotherham, the club’s second January recruit following defender Elliott Moore at the start of the month.

However, with Ethan Wheatley having returned to Manchester United and Cobblers still desperately short on goals, many supporters feel the club need to strengthen further to give themselves the best possible chance of staying in League One.

"I would hope to get more players in but there's not a lot out there, as I've said before,” replied Nolan when asked if he wants further signings before Monday’s 7pm deadline. “We're still very much active and trying to get someone who can come in and help the team and give us a freshness.

"But we will have some of our experienced lads (Cameron McGeehan and Tyrese Fornah) coming back in the next week or two and they will be like new signings because we've been without them for five or six weeks now.

"They were influential in our good form earlier in the season and that might take the pressure away from the lads who haven't handled it too well recently. Hopefully it'll give us a boost. I'm also delighted to get Jake over the line and I'm hoping to add to it.”

Reflecting further on Tuesday’s defeat, and in particular the manner of Rotherham’s goals, Nolan added: "I'm bitterly disappointed. We work every day on set-pieces and there's not much more you can do. The players have to go out there and do it in the heat of battle.

"That's when you have to have clear minds and clear heads and not overthink it – just do your job. But the second half wasn't good enough.”
