Midfielder Jack Sowerby says he couldn't turn down the opportunity to join the Cobblers after hearing what manager Keith Curle had to say about the club.

The 25-year-old signed a two-year contract, with the option of an extra year, after swapping Fleetwood for Northampton for an undisclosed fee last week.

Sowerby played 30 times as Fleetwood reached the play-offs last season and now he hopes to have another successful campaign with his new club.

"I spoke with the manager and he told me what he's looking to do and how he wants to play," said Sowerby. "I've come to play games and enjoy myself.

"It's just the way he spoke about what he wants to do, how he wants to play football and what he wants from me, and what he wants from me suits my game."

And what is his game?

"That's about getting forward, getting shots off, working hard, being a good team player and getting stuck in as well," he added. "You've also got to defend as a team and make sure your man doesn't score.

"I'm happy to play wherever the manager wants me but my position is probably as one of those two central midfielders because I like to get forward but also track back and help the team defensively.

"I've played at Northampton once or twice, unfortunately we were on the wrong end of the result! But I watched the play-offs and they dominated so it seems a place to play and I can't wait to get going."

As Sowerby explains, Curle's interest in him dates way back to January. "I think there was a bit of interest in January for a loan but they came knocking again earlier in the summer and I felt it was an opportunity I couldn't turn down.

"The manager spoke to me about the team and there's a good group of players here and I also saw the way they dominated the play-offs last season so I couldn't say no."
