New signing Joe Nuttall says he heard only positive things about the Cobblers and manager Keith Curle when he was weighing up whether to join the club on loan.

The 23-year-old had been shunted down the pecking order at Blackpool following the addition of three strikers during the summer transfer window, paving the way for a loan move.

Nuttall was a big-money move from Blackburn Rovers only last summer, signing a three-year contract with the Seasiders at the time, but he’s happy to have found a new temporary home.

"Coming to Northampton appealed to me because it’s an opportunity to play regular football and they’re a team that’s just been promoted to this league,” said Nuttall.

“I thought they did well in the League Two last season and then watching the play-off games, they played really well.

“Having spoken to players I know about the manager, everything was positive and then when I came down and spoke to him myself, it proved their points because he’s a really positive manager and a good manager and now I’m just looking forward to playing for him.”

Curle has developed a reputation for improving players following his work with the likes of Charlie Goode and Vadaine Oliver over the last 12 months, and now Nuttall is hoping he can do the same for him.

He added: “The manager here has helped to improve other players and as I said before, speaking to players and listening to all the positive things they said about him, it was definitely one of the major reasons why I came here.

“Hopefully he can do the same for me as he has done for others before.”
