Morton gets a half-time 'roasting' from Curle despite another standout display

Morton, a January loan signing from West Brom, took his tally to five goals in six starts for the Cobblers with two fine finishes at Blundell Park.

His first came after 26 minutes when drilling into the bottom corner before he notched another in the closing stages, latching onto a weak back pass and poking under goalkeeper Sam Russell.

Morton was most people's choice for man of the match but whilst he received plenty of praise from his manager, Keith Curle also had some harsh words for the young striker at half-time.

"Callum is still learning the fundamentals of his work," said Curle. "He got an absolute roasting from me at half-time because there was a corner that came in two minutes before half-time.

"The ball got swung in at the near post and his job is to head it away but they made first contact inside the six-yard box and that can't happen.

"But he understands that and he takes it onboard and that's how we are because we have an honest approach.

"I love saying 'well done' to players because it's the best thing you can ever say to a player - but you can only say it when they've done their job.

"What I don't do and what I won't do is praise failure and I don't use the word 'unlucky' because if you've got a job to do, you do your job."

The 20-year-old admitted he should have done better, saying: "It was a good ball in but I'm obviously in that near post role and I need to be more aggressive when going to head the ball.

"Their player managed to get in front of me but fortunately it didn't end in a goal and we managed to go on and win the game."
