A 'delighted' Callum Morton hopes he can go one better for the Cobblers after bagging his second two-goal haul for the club against Grimsby Town on Saturday.

The 20-year-old West Brom loanee opened his account with the winner at Macclesfield on February 1 before scoring twice in the defeat to Walsall.

He added another brace to his tally on Saturday when Cobblers coasted to a 3-0 victory against Grimsby Town.

"I'm delighted to have got another two goals and more importantly we were on the right side of the result, which is brilliant," said Morton afterwards.

"For the first goal, the ball came to me on the edge of the area and I managed to take a touch and finish it into the bottom left-hand corner.

"That put is us 2-0 up which is obviously a good position but with previous results this season we knew a 2-0 lead might not be so secure!

"But we got to half-time and then we got through the second-half and saw out the rest of the game."

Whilst Morton's second goal at Blundell Park was the result of a mistake by home defender Luke Waterfall, it was also reward for his relentless work ethic off the ball.

"I always anticipate the back passes to go short because that's how I like to play," he added. "Fortunately, one fell to me and I cut inside and got a shot away.

"I thought the ball nearly got away from me but I managed to poke it under the goalkeeper and get my second goal."

Morton has impressed everyone since joining the Cobblers on loan in January, although he's still hoping to grab that elusive hat-trick.

He missed three chances to do so at Walsall and another one on Saturday, opting to square for Ryan Watson instead of shooting himself.

"I had one chance to get the hat-trick but I was in two minds whether to take it myself or pass it on," he continued. "I chose to pass but in hindsight it was probably the wrong decision!

"Watto was in a good position for the pass but I didn't quite get it right. Hopefully I can get that one extra goal and get the match ball soon!"
