It was a mixed Boxing Day for Cobblers' relegation rivals at the bottom of Sky Bet League One.

Town were not in action after their game against Ipswich Town was called off due to COVID. Rochdale, Doncaster Rovers, Peterborough and Sunderland also all had matches postponed after outbreaks within their squads.

That allowed other teams to make up ground in the division, and it was a particularly productive afternoon for new leaders Lincoln City who went one better than they did at the PTS last weekend by thrashing basement boys Burton Albion 5-1.

Brennan Johnson scored another brace as the Imps reclaimed top spot and kept Albion rooted to the bottom of the table.

Wigan Athletic drew 1-1 with fellow relegation battlers Shrewsbury Town while MK Dons beat Bristol Rovers 2-0 and Oxford United defeated AFC Wimbledon by the same scoreline.

The other two games in League One saw Charlton draw 2-2 at home to Plymouth and Crewe held 1-1 by Fleetwood.

Cobblers remain 21st in the table, a point away from safety.
