Loads of work still to do, says Hogg after Cobblers win final friendly
Chris Hogg says there is ‘still loads of work to do’ after Cobblers ended their pre-season campaign by beating Solihull Moors 4-2.
Matty Warhurst, Connor Evans, Elliott List and Sam Hoskins were all on target at Damson Park as Northampton finished pre-season with a record of two wins, two draws and two defeats.

“I thought it was good,” said Hogg. “In terms of the challenge and the test, the team’s trying to build some rhythm and I thought we looked good in some phases, but there is still loads of work to do in other phases.
“It was nice to see the boys score a few goals and grow their confidence with some of the in possessions stuff. The manner of the goals we conceded were disappointing but we’ve got loads of time to iron out those creases and make sure we become hard to beat as a unit.”
Cobblers trailed inside five minutes and took a while to get going but they looked a level above once Warhurst levelled, with Evans adding a quick second.
“It was a bit of a slow start,” admitted Hogg. “We spoke about it before the game and sometimes, as a player, you can be in a good place but then you come out and it takes a bit of time to get going.
“That’s not something we can accept. We have to start from the first whistle and make sure we’re ready for the fight and the scrap straightaway. Credit to Solihull, they started on the front foot, but once we got going I thought we looked pretty good and played some good football.”
