Clubs in League One and League Two will next week be asked how to decide promotion and relegation with the remainder of the current season set to be scraped, according to a report in The Athletic.

The report states that the English Football League will tell clubs there is 'no chance' of playing any more games this season and they must now vote on how the final league tables will be decided.

With null and void not considered an option, the most likely solution will be a points-per-game model, weighted to reflect home and away fixtures. In that scenario, Swindon would leapfrog Crewe Alexandra to be crowned champions while Plymouth Argyle and Cheltenham Town would also be promoted.

The Cobblers would finish seventh, usually inside the play-offs, but because the play-offs cannot take place due to the coronavirus pandemic, the fourth placed team under PPG - Cheltenham - will instead go straight up.

Stevenage would remain bottom and therefore relegated, although other proposals are being discussed and a vote is expected to take place early next week.

The Championship and Premier League remain determined to finish their seasons.
