League Two club make 'unanimous decision' to sack manager

Salford City have made the ‘unanimous’ decision to sack manager Karl Robinson just a week after their play-off final defeat at Wembley.

The former MK Dons, Charlton and Oxford boss, who took charge in 2024, guided Salford to the 2025/26 League Two play-off final where they were beaten 3-0 by Notts County.

Salford began last season under a new ownership structure, with only Gary Neville and David Beckham from the 'Class of 92' still investors. Both former England and Manchester United stars were at Wembley for the play-off loss.

A club statement confirmed: “Salford City Football Club can confirm that Karl Robinson will leave his position today as head coach with immediate effect. This decision has been reached unanimously by the club’s board and executive team following a thorough review of the football operation.

“Karl has conducted himself throughout his time at Salford City with professionalism and integrity. He has worked tirelessly on behalf of the club and has been fully dedicated to helping us achieve our ambitions, both on and off the pitch.

“These decisions are never easy, but we believe this is the right moment to make a change as we look ahead to the next chapter in Salford City’s development.

“On behalf of everyone connected with the club, we would like to place on record our sincere thanks to Karl and his staff for their hard work and dedication. We wish Karl every success in the future.

“The process of appointing a new head coach will begin immediately, and we will provide a further update to supporters in due course.”
