Korboa can't stop smiling after his 'dream' move to the Cobblers.

'I'll be going straight into League One - that's just crazy!'

Ricky Korboa could not stop smiling all the way through his first interview as a professional footballer.

Just hours earlier he had fulfilled a lifelong ambition by signing for the Cobblers on a one-year deal, and it was still sinking in.

“It feels so good, man,” he said. “This is obviously my first professional contract.

“I was at Carshalton for quite some time but now I’m just over the moon to have got this over the line and to sign the contract.

“It’s a dream and it’s all I’ve ever wanted. It’s what I’ve been working towards and now the day has come and it’s a really good opportunity for me - I’m so grateful for it.

"I'm not sure if there's been other clubs interested me. I think there was one or two from the National League but I'm very thankful to the Cobblers for giving me this opportunity.

"I'll be going straight into League One - that's just crazy! But it'll take hard work and I'll have to stay focused and whenever I get the chance to get on the pitch, not to see it like that - just go on and do what I do."

Plucking players out of non-league is something of a step into the unknown but Korboa, scorer of 31 goals across the last two seasons for tier seven side Carshalton Athletic, clearly has the attitude and determination to make the step up..

And manager Keith Curle has had a good look at him too, with the 23-year-old having spent the last three weeks on trial at the club.

He scored a terrific goal in Town’s practice match with the youth team and also featured in friendlies against Leyton Orient, West Brom U23s and Luton Town.

“I was nervous when I first heard about the interest and I came on trial, but the boys were really welcoming,” added Korboa.

“They took me in and they’ve really helped me. I got through the first few sessions, which were quite tough, and then once I got settled, I started to feel more relaxed and more at home.

“It didn’t take too long to get used to it. I found the first two days of training quite difficult, just adapting to it at this level, but after that, I felt really good and ready to go.”

Korboa is a low-risk, potentially high-reward signing. He will offer versatility and flair and could be a game-changing option from the bench.

“I’m very good at getting the ball and running at players and I’ve got a bit of pace,” he added. “I might need to work on my strength a little bit coming up to this level but that’ll get there and I’ve also got an eye for goal.

“When I get into those situations on the pitch, I’ll be ready to do what I need to do.

“I’m happy to play wherever. My favourite position would probably be on the wing but with the formation we play here, you’d probably get the best out of me maybe up top or in midfield.

“But wherever I get played, I’ll do the job that’s asked of me and play to the best of my ability.”
