New signing Peter Kioso says he 'couldn't turn down' the opportunity to join Northampton after speaking with manager Keith Curle.

The young defender will spend the rest of the season with the Cobblers after being loaned out by Championship side Luton Town.

"I'm happy to finally get the deal done," said Kioso. "For me, a lot of it was about the conversation I had with the gaffer.

"He spoke about how much he wanted me to come in and I could see how genuine the gaffer was and how much he wanted to help my progression as a player.

"That's important for me and I just felt Northampton was the right place to continue that progression."

Kioso caught the eye whilst on loan with Bolton Wanderers earlier in the season but although the Trotters were keen on taking him back, he wanted to test himself at the next level.

"Loans are very important for young players," he added." I'm only 21 and people say I have a long way to go in my career but every year is important to me.

"I don't want to be at a standstill at any point of my career. I feel like I need to keep moving forward and keep challenging myself.

"I challenged myself in League Two and played for a great club in Bolton and I felt my performances were good, but this is the next step in my career and the next challenge and I want to show people I can do what I did in League Two in League One.

"I wanted to test myself again. There's no point getting into football if you're not going to challenge yourself every step of the way.

"I could have stayed in my comfort zone and I could have gone back to League Two and finished the season there, but there was an option for me to come to League One and play for Northampton, which is a great club with good players and a good manager.

"I couldn't turn down that opportunity. I need to challenge myself again and tackle it head on."
