Striker Alex Jones has joined Jon Brady s lengthy injury list and is a 'huge doubt' for Friday's derby at Peterborough United.

The 26-year-old has made five substitute appearances since joining last month and impressed off the bench against Bristol Rovers at the weekend, winning a late penalty.

He had been tipped to make his first Cobblers start at London Road on Friday evening but that now looks highly unlikely.

The recent dry weather has left the training pitches at Moulton College firmer than usual and that is causing problems for Jones - among others - particularly as he had spent so long out of the game before joining the club.

Steve Arnold, Mickel Miller, Jack Sowerby, Benny Ashley-Seal and Peter Kioso are all either out or doubtful for Saturday, while Mark Marshall continues to nurse a hamstring complaint.

"Currently, we've got Arnie, Miller, Benny Ashley-Seal, Sowers, Kioso and now AJ is struggling with his Achilles after coming on at the weekend," said Brady.

"He hasn't played for a while so we have tried to manage him and be careful with him. Yes, we could have started him on Saturday but he hasn't played for over a year and he played brilliantly for 30 minutes.

"His Achilles is struggling now due to the really firm grounds. We're trying to train up at Moulton to make our home pitch better but in doing so, Moulton is very firm and it hasn't done any good for players' injuries.

"I think both Alex and Peter are huge doubts for Friday and that's now seven good quality players that could make a difference to our cause. It's tough, but it is what it is and that's where we're at and we've got to move forward and try to find a way."
