Huddersfield Town hit by illness ahead of Northampton clash

Lee Grant has admitted Huddersfield will be ‘stretched’ for Tuesday night’s game at Northampton after revealing a sickness bug is currently working its way through the Terriers squad.

Huddersfield were without Lynden Gooch for Saturday’s defeat at Cardiff due to illness and the defender appears doubtful to make the journey down the M1 this evening, and he’s not the only one.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Monday, Grant said: “We’re in the middle of a big bout of sickness that’s going through the group. Lynden Gooch was not able to travel with us against Cardiff due to illness and what we’re seeing now is that it’s migrating through the rest of the squad.

"We’ve had two staff members unable to be with us for most of the week as well so we’re going to be up against it in terms of the illness and the bug that’s traveling through the group. We’ll have to really monitor that closely and be careful with how we travel down to Northampton, but it’s going to a real stretch for Lynden to be involved and there are one or two others that will be up against it as well. He’s not eaten a great deal and hasn’t trained for a few days. We’ve got a few to manage on that side of it.

"I can’t deny that we’ve had too many injuries this season and too many of our senior players not available often enough, and now to be hit with a bout of illness in the group is not ideal. We’re going to be stretched again but we can survive it and have enough in our ranks to step up and go to Northampton and put in a really good display.”
