Cobblers have added eight players to the strong core which remains from last season, but more incomings are expected. What areas still need strengthening? The squad appears well-stocked in defence but perhaps light on numbers in attacking areas, particularly out wide and in creative positions. Here’s how things are shaping up nine days out from Colchester’s visit to Sixfields...
13. CENTRAL MIDFIELDERS: Ben Fox
Effectively Paul Lewis' replacement in central midfield, giving Brady three strong options to choose from. Photo: Pete Norton
14. CENTRAL MIDFIELDERS: Peter Abimbola
Could be sent out on loan if another midfielder comes in but if not, and should others suffer injury, an opportunity may well come his way. Photo: Pete Norton
15. WIDE/ATTACKING MIDFIELDERS: Sam Hoskins
Can play at wing-back or up front but Brady favours him in a wide role or as a number 10. Entering his eighth season at Sixfields. Photo: Pete Norton
16. ATTACKING/WIDE MIDFIELDERS: Mitch Pinnock
Creative fulcrum from last season. This is probably the position Cobblers most need to strengthen. Academy graduates Miguel Ngwa and Liam Cross have been used in pre-season but Brady will be looking for more creativity in the transfer market. Photo: Pete Norton
