Hogg 'learned loads' about his players on 'uncomfortable' night against Brighton
Cobblers boss Chris Hogg said he ‘learned quite a bit’ about his players during Tuesday’s ‘uncomfortable’ 3-0 defeat to Brighton Under-21s in the EFL Trophy.
Making eight changes from the weekend, Hogg essentially fielded a second-string team for the change in competition at Sixfields, and his side were well beaten by an impressive and highly talented Brighton team.

Town’s fringe players did themselves few favours as the visitors eased into a 2-0 lead after 15 minutes and from there they never relinquished control, adding a third early in the second half.
Hogg has previously spoken about the need for more than one transfer window to make the required changes in order to mould and shape his squad, and this performance was perhaps an example of that.
“It was a big difference from Saturday in terms of personnel and the energy and vibe of the game and I learned quite a bit about the players tonight,” said Hogg.
“I enjoyed Brighton and how they played. Fair play to them, they have a great academy and some really good coaches, but it was also really good for me to sit there and learn and see the group in a different type of game.
“I’m constantly learning about the group. People forget the stage of the journey we’re at. It’s an EFL Trophy game and you can’t get too emotional about one result and one performance.
“It wasn’t a lack of effort tonight, it was a lack of thinking and a lack of brains and a lack of problem solving. I learned loads in terms of how I’ve got to try and help the group. Their effort and attitude has been terrific since I came into the club but I’m constantly evaluating and learning what we need.
“It was uncomfortable, I don’t like losing any game, but it was a good night in that respect.”
