Hogg explains why Liam Shaw and Jack Burroughs missed Leicester friendly
Cobblers midfielder Liam Shaw is expected to train as normal next week, but defender Jack Burroughs will need to be managed due to an ongoing fitness issue.
Shaw missed the whole of the 2025/26 season due to a knee injury and he was absent again when Cobblers kicked off their pre-season schedule against Leicester City on Saturday. He’s trained well in the last two weeks though and will join the squad at St George’s Park for a training camp in the coming days.

"Shaw’s all good,” confirmed Chris Hogg after Saturday’s 3-0 defeat. “I’ve been through the injury he’s had and I was out for a long, long time with a knee injury so I know how it feels. It’s all about how we integrate him back into the group and just being really sensible with our approach.
"He's done a two-day block and he’ll start again next week with a day of work and then a different day and then a two-day block again. We will build him back up to make sure he’s able to come in and help us.”
On Burroughs, who struggled with an Achilles problem throughout much of last season, Hogg added: “Jack’s had stuff ongoing for a while. I think it started last pre-season and he’s had issues with certain areas of his body. We’re just assessing him and doing what we can to help him.”
