Hogg 'always wants more' as deadline day approaches

Chris Hogg said he ‘always wants more’ when asked if Cobblers are likely to add to their squad before the end of the transfer window.

The transfer window closes in just over a week - on September 1st at 11pm - and so far Northampton have signed 10 players this summer, the latest of which was striker Nathan Opoku on a three-year deal from Leicester City.

However, after losing 1-0 to Crewe on Saturday, leaving his side without a win so far in 2026/27, Hogg confirmed he’s still looking to add.

“Anything can happen in the last bit of the window in terms of ins and outs,” he said. “I’m sure it will be an interesting time. I always want more. I think any football manager will want to keep trying to improve their squad.

“But I said it before, we can’t do everything in one window. We’re taking a medium to longer term view in terms where we want to get to. There’s been good things happening and we just have to make sure we keep pushing in the right direction.”

Opoku’s arrival was confirmed on Friday afternoon but he could not feature against Crewe as the club wait for his work permit to be approved.

Hogg added: “We’re trying to build some depth into that top line and we wanted to bring some different characteristics and different qualities to the team and Nathan will do that.

“We’re excited to see him play, hopefully we’ll get the clearance through and it’ll be good to have a week on the training pitch with him. We hope he’ll be available for next weekend.”
