Cobblers wing-back Michael Harriman can't wait to get stuck into the 'challenge' of playing League One football after securing his future at the club for another two years.

The 27-year-old was one of three players, along with Sam Hoskins and Vadaine Oliver, to be offered a new contract by manager Keith Curle following Town's play-off final victory over Exeter City.

And the former Luton Town and Wycombe Wanderers man didn't waste any time in putting pen to paper.

"I'm delighted to sign a new deal," said Harriman, "With the way the season finished, I wanted to get it done as soon as possible and luckily we have.

"It's been a crazy year. I didn't have a club at the start of the season, which was obviously a worry, but to now secure my future here for a couple of years is fantastic.

"We had a fantastic finish to the season. We endured some hard times on the way but we got to where we wanted in the end."

Harriman was outstanding during the play-offs, particularly at Wembley when he shackled Exeter's danger man Randell Williams.

"The play-offs were an unreal experience," he added. You can't help but look back at all the fond memories and it's so enjoyable to watch over and over again because the boys were so good on the night and hopefully we can carry it on in League One.

"I don't think we had any fear going into the second leg of the semi-final. A lot of people wrote us off and I think that allowed us to play with freedom. Everyone put in the maximum effort and I think it showed with the two fantastic results we had.

"All credit to the gaffer because he kept us calm throughout and kept us motivated and fair play to the boys because they all did what they needed to."

Harriman and Curle go back a long way and the defender is grateful for his manager's support, adding: "I owe a lot to the gaffer, especially for what he's done for me this season because he brought me in and made me part of the squad that won promotion.

"We go back a long way. He's known me since I was a young pro so I'm looking forward to working with him for the next two years and the next challenge is League One.

"The club have also been great through everything, especially during lockdown, and it's brought us all closer, the fans and the players, and we've got to enjoy these great times.

"There will be some big teams in the league next season and it'll be special to be part of it - hopefully the fans are allowed back in!"
