Young striker Ryan Edmondson believes he can be the missing piece of Keith Curle's puzzle and help fix Cobblers' misfiring attack after joining on loan from Leeds United this week.

No team in League One has scored fewer than Town's 19 goals this season, an alarming statistic which prompted Curle to bolster his attacking options by swooping for Edmondson, as well as Rotherham's Mickel Miller.

The 19-year-old, who could make his debut against Oxford United this weekend, intends to bring with him an array of valuable attributes, but it is goals that Town crave most of all.

"I think I've developed a lot of different attributes over the past few years," said Edmondson. "I used to be this big, lumpy target man.

"But over the past couple of seasons, back at Leeds, I have developed quite a lot of different variations to my game. I think my main strength is my work ethic because I'm a bit of a workhorse.

"I will constantly run around and pressure the opposition's back-line, but I'll also run in behind and I can come short. I like to vary it up quite a lot.

"Obviously I want to come here and score as many goals as I can and be a presence in the box. Northampton like to get a lot of service into the box and get crosses in and I think what they've lacked is that finishing touch - hopefully I can add that."

As with all of his signings, Curle played a decisive role in persuading Edmondson to turn down other clubs and sign for the Cobblers.

"The manager had a massive impact," revealed the former York City youngster, who has played three times and scored one goal for England U19s. "I spoke to Keith a couple of times over the phone and he had expressed his interest previously.

"It's been persistent and he's kept a close eye on my development. As a player, that feels amazing because you know the gaffer cares about you and he's monitoring you and he's watching your performances.

"I obviously didn't play that much at Aberdeen but Keith still wants me here and it's fantastic to know that he's watched the games I did play and he thinks I made an impact. Hopefully now I can play more regularly and repay him."
