Northampton didn’t reach top gear but they didn’t need to against a beleaguered Spireites side who were beaten by John-Joe O’Toole’s first-half brace plus a second-half header from Marc Richards.

“I’m really pleased and it’s a huge three points for us,” said Edinburgh.

“We knew the importance of today and I thought we were very good first-half.

“I’d describe it as an efficient performance rather than spectacular but we’ve got to keep the intensity up because I thought we just came off it a little bit in the second-half.”

O’Toole headed in Hiram Boateng’s fine cross to get the Cobblers up and running on Saturday before he improvised well to add a second shortly before the break.

Edinburgh added: “He’s got that knack of arriving in the box to get the goals. We always know we’ve got that opportunity and I’m also pleased for Marc Richards to get a goal after last week and get himself into double figures for the season which is a good return,

“I’m pleased with the three points because it continues our home form and we want to turn Sixfields into a fortress and the players want to do that.”
