Cobblers captain Charlie Goode says he is still 'loving' his time at the club amid speculation surrounding his future this summer.

Rumours have swirled over the 25-year-old during the past few weeks with Championship clubs Queens Park Rangers and Middlesbrough both reported to be interested in his services.

Goode, made captain by Keith Curle last summer, was outstanding for the Cobblers during 2019/20 and has become a firm favourite with supporters.

So while a potential move to a bigger club would be tempting, he's more than happy to stay at the Cobblers.

"My focus is on the pitch," said Goode. "It's something I'm aware of and I hear everything that goes but at the end of the day I play for Northampton and that won't change until my last day at the club.

"My focus is as normal and I'm just looking forward to the new season. I've loved every minute I've had at this club."

Goode is guaranteed to step up a level next season whatever happens in the transfer market following Town's promotion.

"I came here to get promoted last season and I've helped us achieve that - but it doesn't stop now," he added.

"I've played in League One before and I want to make sure I'm still playing at at least League One level next season so I'm going to give it a real good go.

"I also really enjoy working for the manager. As everyone knows, I get on very well with Keith. He gave me the captaincy at a young age so I know I owe him a lot.

"I tried to show that on the pitch last season and I'll try to keep doing that this season."
