The generosity and support from Cobblers fans during the coronavirus pandemic has only made club captain Nicky Adams more determined to win promotion when the League Two play-offs take place.

The 33-year-old wing-back says he has been 'blown away' by the deluge of messages the club have received from fans who will not be asking for refunds on their season tickets despite missing out on the final nine games of the season.

Players and staff have also earned deserved praise this week for turning down the appearance fees and bonuses they would be due for reaching the League Two play-offs this season.

The actions of fans, players and staff alike have been a shining light during these difficult and uncertain times, and it's only given Adams an added dose of motivation to finish the job when he's finally able to get back out onto the pitch.

"As a group of players we've been overwhelmed by what we've seen from the fans on social media," said the skipper.

"I was looking through the messages last night and seeing the response to what the club had said about fans not wanting refunds; for us as players, that's just fantastic.

"We're football fans ourselves and we know they've spent their hard-earned money to come and watch us up and down the country this season and it's so important to them.

"People laugh when you say football is a religion but it is to a lot of people. I'm blown away by our fans and that goes for the rest of the team because we all feel the same way.

"We had some big games coming up, especially at home, and obviously they won't be able to come to the play-off games either. I'm sure they'll watch it on television but they won't get the same buzz so I just want to say thank you from myself and all of my team-mates for how they've supported the club.

"It's now even more important to us that we try and get over the line and we give everything we've got to get promoted. There'd be no better way to repay them than by getting the club to League One and going up against the likes of Sunderland and Portsmouth next season.

"We want to give them that and hopefully we can make it happen."

Manager Keith Curle was also full of praise for supporters, adding: "It is very humbling when you see the gestures that are being made and I think it shows a good understanding of where the club are at in terms of the connection from the owners right the way through to the supporters.

"It's a very, very good football club to work for and the clarity and integrity that's shown from the top is transmitted throughout the football club.

"The chairman and the owners have shown integrity right from the offset and it's an opportunity for everybody involved in the football club that they want to be a part of those values and that has shone through."
