Frustrated caretaker boss Jon Brady felt his side got 'carried away with the situation' after they went 3-2 up before losing 4-3 in a breathless contest at MK Dons on Saturday.

A remarkable game at Stadium MK saw Town break their goal duck just 78 seconds in before eventually succumbing to a cruel defeat after conceding twice in the final seven minutes.

Andrew Surman and Will Grigg cancelled out Fraser Horsfall's early goal but Town bossed the second-half and turned things around thanks to goals from Ryan Watson and Peter Kioso.

The visitors had other chances too, racking up 19 shots in total including eight on target, but Cameron Jerome and Charlie Brown both came off the bench to snatch victory for Dons.

"These players have given everything they've got again but it's another thing that we're finding out about them as players," said Brady afterwards.

"For 90 per cent of that game, we controlled the game both in possession and out of possession, but at the end we didn't control the spaces out of possession after we went 3-2 up.

"I didn't mind the fact we wanted to keep attacking and we wanted to keep going for a fourth goal but our problem was that we started counter-pressing way too high, way too early and you will get picked off my this MK Dons side if you do that, as we did.

"These boys need to learn quickly because the gameplan was to close spaces and deny those spaces and we had certain trigger points when to go and we controlled them out of possession.

"We were in control and we dictated but then, for a 10 or 15 minute period, we got carried away with the situation and we thought we could go and win 4-2 or 5-2. That was the biggest problem because we lost control."
