Jordan Turnbull has found a new club following his release from the Cobblers last month, putting pen to paper on a two-year contract with big-spending Salford City.

The 25-year-old was surprisingly let go by Cobblers boss Keith Curle just days after playing a key role in Town's promotion back to League One during 2019/20.

A former youth player at Southampton, Turnbull spent the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons on loan at Swindon Town before signing for Coventry City. A loan spell in Scotland with Partick Thistle followed before the centre-back joined the Cobblers in January 2018.

He made just shy of 100 appearances in two-and-a-half seasons at the PTS Academy Stadium, including 42 in 2019-20, and found the back of the net five times – all last season, with one coming against his new club.

Turnbull is one of five players to have already signed for Salford this summer, joining Tom Clarke, Ash Hunter, Jason Lowe and Ian Henderson.

“We found out about his availability after Northampton’s promotion," said Salford manager Graham Alexander. "We’re looking for a certain type of profile of player to come in, and he fits all those categories.

"After meeting him last week up here, he seemed really excited about possibly joining the club straight away, we saw a real desire from him to come here and vice versa with us.

“He’s just come out of a promotion-winning team from this division. What we’re looking at is players that are coming into the club from higher levels, or promotion winners, or captains, and that’s the profile we set out quite a few months ago to bring on board, and we’re delighted to get Jordan’s services for us.”
