Former Cobblers loanee joins 45 free agents training with the PFA

Max Thompson has joined nearly 50 free agents in the penultimate week of training with the Professional Footballers’ Association.

The 22-year-old goalkeeper, who played 15 league games for Cobblers in 2023, was released by Newcastle United at the end of last season and remains without a new club following the end of the transfer window. He’s also had loan spells with Chesterfield and Ayr United and has represented England Under-18s.

The PFA initiative gives out-of-contract members a residential training base during the off-season, with daily on-pitch training sessions, strength and conditioning, friendly fixtures, and wrap-around physical and mental wellbeing support. It runs for 12 weeks until September 20th.
