Former Cobblers boss interested in signing former Cobblers midfielder
Two former Cobblers could be about to team up this summer after reports linked Chris Wilder, current Sheffield United manager, with a move for Birmingham City’s Marc Leonard.
The 24-year-old was superb across two seasons on loan at Sixfields, playing 97 times as Cobblers won promotion to League One, and he’s now catching the eye north of the border in Scotland. He’s played 13 times for title-chasing Hearts on loan from Birmingham, scoring once.

Wilder was at Tynecastle to watch Leonard during the 2-1 win against Rangers last week, but the Blades face stiff competition for his signature this summer with both Celtic and Rangers, as well as Hearts, all said to be keen on the Scotland Under-21 international, whose Birmingham future looks in doubt. Leonard joined the Blues on a four-year deal in the summer of 2024, joining for an undisclosed fee from Brighton.
However, any move could be scuppered by a worrying injury picked up by the midfielder during Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Motherwell. Both Leonard and team-mate Craig Halkett left the stadium on crutches. Hearts boss Derek McInnes said afterwards: "Both have Achilles injuries. Both significant time out, I think. Both were leaving on crutches.”
